Installing Wide Plank Pine Flooring

The planks in this floor are 14 wide.

Installing wide plank pine flooring. If you use different widths of pine boards you can start at one end and work your way to the other. Wide plank flooring must be carefully installed to ensure that the floor will not only be beautiful but will have longevity with that beauty. Installation of our very first white pine wide plank floor. For wide plank installation many installers will apply waterless urethane adhesive applied in a snake like pattern on the back of each wide plank as it is installed fig 5 this will bond the planks directly to the sub floor and minimize any squeaks or movement in the future as well as limit the risk of cupping or buckling.

As a quick reminder we chose wide plank yellow pine from lumber liquidators. Lay the boards perpendicular to the floor joists. We stacked the floors inside the kitchen for more than 2 weeks to prevent shrinkage and expansion. To make a transition between the pine floor in one room and a different floor material in another cut a pine threshold to fit between the entry doorjambs.

To keep the wide boards from cupping you ll face nail them with cut nails driven through the subfloor and into the joists photo 18. Attempt to stagger end joints of boards row to row a minimum of twice the width of the flooring. If the flooring must enter a closet or wrap around an outside corner use a sabre saw to cut the stock to fit. If you use all of the same size i would recommend start installing them in the middle of the room and work your way out on both sides keeping the last board on each side the same size. The tongue and groove pine flooring must run perpendicular to the floor joists. The lengths are up to 16 long. Although this is ideal many wide plank flooring products will not allow for such a wide stagger due to the amount of shorter boards.

Installing your pine flooring 1 pull a taut string across the floor along longest wall of the room and chalk mark that line. For example 8 minimum stagger for 4 planks 12 stagger for 6 planks. The 3 4 in thick solid plank flooring shown is milled with a tongue and groove. When beginning your wide pine floor installation process we highly recommend that you face your nailing in boards 8 in width or wider.
