Plastic laminate is made up of a bottom layer of melamine a middle layer of fiberboard and a top layer of you guessed it plastic designed to look like wood. Now due to innovative manufacturing laminate looks as if it is solid hardwood or stone but is much more affordable.

Staining laminate furniture can be problematic. You cannot stain laminate. The overall thickness for laminate flooring planks ranges from 6 mm to 12 mm. Veneers get a wooden look with polish and good maintenance and add to the richness of the furniture.

A man made product usually plastic that is actually printed to look like it has wood grain. It allows manufacturers to create furniture cabinets and flooring for less money. This doesn t mean that you can leave raw chicken on the countertop but it does help kill some of the invisible pathogens that make us sick. Laminates do look artificial and sometimes cheap.

In another sense a laminate is a plasticized coating that you glue to countertops. But the critical difference is that its core is made from wood byproducts bonded with resins. Laminate is not made from wood. The top surface is a hard transparent plastic wear layer that covers the printed design layer.
