Is Lilac A Hardwood
Lilac wood grows quickly every year sending up new branches while the older branches get thicker.
Is lilac a hardwood. Lilac belongs to the genus syringa and it was as syringa that my small pieces of this wood were marketed to me as part of a set of australian woods i m not certain why syringa was considered an australian wood as the 12 currently recognized species are native to europe and asia but certainly not australia syringa as the widely recognized lilac bush is now. Mike kennedy reply to ejmeier 6 years ago thank you very much. Lilacs are old fashioned favorites in climates with chilly winters valued for their sweet smelling clusters of flamboyant springtime blooms. Woodworkers considered the lilac wood to be a hardwood suitable for carving and musical instruments.
So is lilac considered a hardwood or softwood. Whether you are clearing out old bushes or just trimming in your yard save the wood and use it for heat in a fireplace. It can cause contamination. To enjoy even more of these great plants you might want to try your hand at rooting lilac cuttings.
I use a small paint brush to cover the length of stem that will be under the growing medium. Syringa lilac is a genus of 12 currently recognized species of flowering woody plants in the olive family native to woodland and scrub from southeastern europe to eastern asia and widely and commonly cultivated in temperate areas elsewhere. The genus is most closely related to ligustrum privet classified with it in oleaceae tribus oleeae subtribus ligustrinae. Depending on the variety lilacs are available in shades of purple violet pink blue magenta white and of course lilac.
