Is Threshold Required Between Hardwood Floors
Leave inch to inch of space centered underneath the door for the bottom of the transition strip.
Is threshold required between hardwood floors. These strips can be finished to look like the floor or painted to stand out. This transition strip is designed for joining a laminate floor to a tile floor. Tapered oak thresholds can be pretty high. Typically when you see hardwood floors in a home they are separated by thresholds from room to room.
Seat the molding in place allowing for a minimum of 1 4 overlap on the wood flooring. I will have two choices either do as you have done or make the transition by sloping the tile floor along about 8 to 9 of run which is about 3 16 per foot slope. Many times i see thresholds higher than 3 8 when transitioning from hardwood flooring to tiled areas over a mud substrate. I am faced with the same dilemma needing to transition from a hardwood floor up about 1 1 2 to a hydronic radiant heat floor with a tile surface.
The hardwood strip is unfinished and can be stained to match the color of the laminate flooring. Hardwood floor thresholds are strips of wood that cover a gap between the floor and the edge of a door sill making the transition between the two areas even which prevents tripping. Expansion gaps are spaces left around the perimeter of rooms against fixed objects such as columns thresholds hearths baseboard and other stationary items built or secured into the framing structure of the home. Eliminating the threshold makes the home feel more cohesive and luxurious.
To attach between two hardwood floors apply the 1 4 bead to the top edge of of one side of the hardwood only. However if you want to install a wood floor that runs smoothly throughout the home without being broken up you create continuity and a smoother effect. The thresholds between tile and wood called transitions decoratively cover gaps in a floor and smoothly bridge the space between adjacent materials differing heights. The hardwood floor guys told me the best transition between the two is a t molding.
The simplest way to link floor tile and hardwood of different heights is with a transition strip. Even though wood flooring used is no longer living and breathing it still reacts to moisture changes in the environment. Ceramic tile floors tend to be higher than laminate floors because tile is installed over cement board while laminate usually lies over a thin foam underlayment.
